Srinagar, Nov 23 – Following the accident that killed two young boys in Tengpora on November 14, the Traffic Police Department in Srinagar has taken aggressive action to tackle underage and reckless driving, seizing more than 3,000 vehicles—both two-wheelers and four-wheelers—as part of the ongoing crackdown.
The crash, which involved a collision between two vehicles, sparked public outcry over the dangers of minor drivers, spurring the Traffic Police to launch a stringent drive targeting traffic violations.
“We’ve seized over 3,000 vehicles for various offenses in the past nine days. This operation will continue as we aim to make the roads safer, particularly for the younger generation,” said a senior Traffic Police official.
The crackdown begins each day at 8:30 a.m. and runs until 11:00 or 11:30 p.m., depending on the situation, he added.
“We are focusing on stopping minors from driving, as they often lack the maturity and experience needed for safe road use. The goal is clear: reduce accidents and improve safety for all road users in Srinagar,” he further stated.
