Handwara/Uri: Flash floods, landslides triggered by heavy rains wreaked havoc in parts of North Kashmir on Monday with 336 families evacuated from Handwara and eight persons including two children rescued from a landslide-hit house in Uri.
According to reports, five villages of Handwara have been fully affected by the floods and around 336 families evacuated from the flood-affected areas.
Moreover, floods have inflicted damage on several infrastructure facilities in the area including the Shumriyal Bridge, Khumryal Bridge (side walls), Shatmuqam Bridge, Sohipora-Hayhama bridge, Farkyan bridge, two RDD buildings, the AD Handicrafts office building. The Shumryal-Gundajhanger road was blocked, and the Doban Kachama dam breached.
Also, the Kupwara-Sopore highway was closed for the traffic.
In Uri, eight persons including two children were rescued after a landslide hit a residential house in the Bhujithala area of Uri.
