Srinagar, 4 February 2025 — Sleuths of Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Tuesday detained five people across Kashmir, suspected of transporting and smuggling SIM cards to militants lodged in various jails.
The detained suspects are from Dawoodpora Anantnag, Qamarwari Srinagar, Nathpora, Kaloosa Bandipora, and Kursu Padshahibagh, Srinagar, the police said.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said, “On 04.02.2025, in connection with the investigation of case FIR No. 06/2023 under sections 153-A, 505, 121, and 120-B IPC, read with sections 13 and 39 of the UA (P) Act at Police Station CI-K, five individuals were detained for interrogation regarding their involvement in a criminal conspiracy with anti-national elements.”
“The conspiracy aimed at procuring, transporting, and smuggling SIM cards inside Central Jail premises for use by jail inmates, including those involved in militancy and drugs."
“Earlier, P/S CIK conducted searches inside Central Jail and found that these suspects, in connivance with certain inmates, had procured and transported SIM cards for use in various militancy-related activities.”
“The role of Points of Sale (PoS)/vendors of different Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) who issued these SIM cards is being investigated, and further arrests are expected,” the statement added.
