Kathua: Jammu and Kashmir Police said that nine persons were arrested for aiding militants with shelter, food, and logistics before guiding them to the upper reaches of Udhampur, Kathua, and Doda districts, particularly around the Kailash mountain, which serves as a tri-junction for three regions.

They have been identified as Mohammad Lateef alias Haji Lateef, a resident of Ambe Naal in Kathua, Akhter Ali, Saddam, Kushal, Noorani, Maqbool, Liaquat, Kasim Din, and Khadim, all hailing from Kathua district.

According to Police, Lateef was the key facilitator.

“Lateef’s activities came under scrutiny following the elimination of three militants in the Gandoh area of Doda district and two more in Hiranagar. These militants were sheltered by Lateef before their encounters with forces,” Police said.

“He had been absconding since the Hiranagar operation but was apprehended during the ongoing investigation.”

However, a limited number of persons neglected to inform the authorities of their contact with militants, with some even accepting financial compensation for their assistance. Those who quickly reported these encounters are being regarded as innocent, Police added.

Reports said the arrested people are being booked under enemy agents act.
