SRINAGAR, Aug 10: A threatening communication purportedly issued by an outfit calling itself the United Liberation Council (ULC) and warning of attacks against Kashmiri Pandits has surfaced in Jammu and Kashmir, even as police have not disclosed whether an FIR has been registered or what action, if any, has been initiated over the communication.
The letter, dated August 7, threatens retaliatory action against government employees and others, alleging that relatives of militants and resistance supporters were being subjected to harassment and property-related action.
The communication specifically warns of attacks against individuals it claims are posted in government departments and alleges that it possesses information about their families and locations.
A senior police officer confirmed that the communication had surfaced, but said he did not have information about whether an FIR had been registered.
There was no immediate official confirmation of an FIR, investigation or police assessment of the threat contained in the letter.
The communication carries the name of the United Liberation Council and is framed as a warning against what it describes as continued harassment of people linked to militants.
The letter also contains communal references and lists names and contact details of individuals it claims are associated with government departments.
