Sopore, Sep 4: Police in north Kashmir’s Sopore have attached two double-storey buildings, six shops and two kanals of land in Dooru village under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), officials said on Thursday.
The properties, which include the premises of Islamia Model School, Dooru, were attached after completion of the prescribed legal process in connection with an investigation into alleged links with the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JeI).
The action was taken in connection with FIR No. 42/2025 registered at Police Station Sopore under Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA.

According to officials, the school has remained closed since 2022. During the investigation, police examined official and revenue records and carried out verification with the concerned authorities.
“This established the alleged linkage of the properties with the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir,” an official said.
The official said Sopore Police had submitted a dossier following the investigation, based on which the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, issued an order on August 12, 2026, notifying the properties under Section 8(1) of the UAPA.
“On the basis of a dossier submitted by Sopore Police, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, through an order dated August 12, 2026, notified the properties under Section 8(1) of the UAPA,” the official said.
Police subsequently approached the District Magistrate, Baramulla, who issued orders under Sections 8(3) and 8(4) of the Act.
Following the orders, a police team accompanied by an Executive Magistrate carried out the attachment of the properties on the ground in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure, officials said.
Police said the action was part of its ongoing investigation into properties and assets allegedly linked to proscribed organisations and their associated networks.
“Sopore Police remains committed to taking lawful action against proscribed organisations and ensuring that properties allegedly linked to such groups are not used for activities prohibited under law,” police said.
