Multiple Kashmir Locations Raided in Journalist Threat Case

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday raided at several locations across the Kashmir Valley including the residences of several journalists in a case related to the online threat letter issued by TRF (The Resistance Front) armed group against Kashmir-based journalists working with two local newspapers and a social media channel.

In a statement, a Police spokesperson said that in the wake of recent threat issued to journalists by a militant outfit, Srinagar Police conducted simultaneous searches at various locations across Kashmir under a case vide FIR No. 82/2022 registered in PS Sherghari against ‘handlers, active militants & associates of LeT & its offshoot TRF.’

Pertinently, TRF recently put out a list online of over one dozen journalists who were accused of working for Indian agencies and five among those already resigned from their jobs.

In this regard, Police raided many locations and named two other persons for networking and targeting journalists.

Police teams comprised of 4-5 members led by an inspector or SI rank officer monitored by the SDPO raided 12 locations and all the raids were supervised by SP South City Srinagar Lakshya Sharma, police statement said.

“The houses of fugitives like Sajjad Gul, Mukhtar Baba, active militants of LeT (TRF) and other suspects in Srinagar, Anantnag and Kulgam Districts were also raided,” it reads.

It reads the premises which were raided and searched belong to Mohd Rafi at Nigeen, Khalid Gul at Anantnag, Rashid Maqbool at Lal Bazar, Momin Gulzar at Eidgah, Basit Dar at Kulgam, Sajjad Kralyari at Rainawari, Gowhar Geelani at Soura, Qazi Shibli at Anantnag, Sajjad Sheikh @Sajjad Gul at HMT Srinagar, Mukhtar Baba at Nowgam, Waseem Khalid at Rawalpora and Adil Pandit at Khanyar Srinagar.

“During search, all legal formalities were followed professionally and consequent to the searches some suspects have been brought for examination and questioning. Seized materials by the respective search teams include mobiles, laptops, memory cards, pen-drives & other digital devices, documents, bank papers, rubber stamps, passports, other suspect papers, cash, Saudi currency etc,” it added.
