Srinagar/New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security meeting on Sunday in New Delhi, directing Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and top officials to secure all temples and tourist spots across the region while taking strong action against militants and their supporters.
According to sources, Shah stated, "Crush the rise of militancy in the Jammu region; don’t allow its revival at any cost. Go hard on militants, harder against their supporters."
He stressed the need for foolproof security during the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and instructed officials to maintain high vigilance on highways and vulnerable points to protect forces and pilgrims' movements.
Sources further indicated that Shah called for dealing firmly with elements supporting militancy in Jammu and preventing its resurgence.
He instructed officials to gather human intelligence to reach militants operating in the Jammu region and to secure points where foreign militants might infiltrate.
The Home Minister also sought the need for a "multi-tier security cover" for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, ensuring the safety of every pilgrim and conducting the pilgrimage in a secure environment. The annual Yatra is scheduled to commence on June 29 and conclude on August 19.
The meeting, held in New Delhi, was attended by military Chief General Manoj Pande, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, DG CRPF Anish Dayal Singh, Lieutenant Governor Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Duloo, DGP RR Swain, Vijay Kumar, ADGP (Law & Order), senior military officers from Jammu and Kashmir, intelligence officers, and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval.
Sources also mentioned that Shah expressed concern over the attack on Shiv Kohri pilgrims and called for coordinated efforts to protect pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi, Shiv Kohri, and other temples in Jammu and Kashmir.
