Rishikesh/Amritsar, March 3 — The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has strongly condemned the mob attack on two Sikh businessmen in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, and the vandalism of their showroom.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, has sparked outrage, with SGPC urging immediate action from authorities.
SGPC chief secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan has written to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and state police, demanding strict action against those responsible.
“Viral footage shows a mob physically assaulting the Sikh traders and pelting stones at their showroom, causing damage,” Mannan stated.
He also pointed out that one of the attackers forcibly removed a victim’s turban and desecrated his Kes (unshorn hair), an act considered sacrilegious in Sikhism.
Mannan urged authorities to include charges related to hurting religious sentiments in the case.
In his letter, he called for a fair and thorough investigation, swift identification of the perpetrators, and immediate legal action.
