UN’s Guterres Urges Restraint Amid Israel-Yemen Escalation

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed "deep" concern over the possible escalation in the Middle East following an exchange of drone strikes between Israel and Yemen.

In a statement issued by the office of his special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, on Sunday, the Secretary-General urged all parties to exercise utmost restraint.

He called on all concerned parties "to avoid attacks that could harm civilians and damage civilian infrastructure."

At least three people were killed and 87 others injured in Israeli airstrikes targeting the port of Al Hudaydah, its fuel tanks, and its power station on Saturday in Yemen.

The Israeli military has claimed responsibility, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu describing it as a "direct response" to a drone attack launched by the Houthis on Yaffa (Tel Aviv) on Friday, which killed an Israeli and injured 10 others.
