Damascus, 3 January 2025: Israel has bombed rural Damascus with sources stating that Israeli forces have taken control of the Al-Mantara Dam in Quneitra, Syrian Media reported
According to reports, the Israeli airstrike is said to have targeted the 90th Brigade headquarters in Sa’sa, located in rural Damascus. This brigade, positioned north of Quneitra, is one of the Syrian army's key armored units.
At the same time, reports suggest that Israeli forces have advanced into the rural area of Quneitra and seized control of the Al-Mantara Dam, which lies within the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
Israeli military are said to have established positions at multiple points around the dam and erected earth barriers, restricting movement into and out of the region.
Al-Mantara Dam is a critical water source for Quneitra and its neighboring areas, extending into Daraa Governorate. It is regarded as one of southern Syria’s largest and most important dams.
The collapse of the Assad regime has triggered a fierce military response from Israel, with airstrikes targeting military sites across Syria and ground troops entering and surpassing a demilitarized buffer zone for the first time in 50 years.
