Srinagar: J&K Police said an infiltration bid was foiled by killing two unidentified militants along the line of control in the Pichnad area of Machil in north Kashmir’s Kuowara district on Wednesday.
In a statement, J&K police said the operation was launched by a joint team of Army & Kupwara Police after receiving intelligence inputs in May 1.
“The movement of a group of terrorists was noticed by the joint party and were subsequently challenged by the alert party. On being challenged, the terrorists started indiscriminate firing upon the joint party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” reads the statement.
In the ensuing encounter, two unidentified militants were killed, it said.
“The identification and affiliation of the killed terrorists is being ascertained,” reads the statement.
Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 02 AK-rifles have been recovered from the site of the encounter, it added.
