Poonch: Four militants from Pakistan-controlled Kashmir were killed in an encounter (military operation) in Surankote area of Pir Panchal region’s Poonch district on Tuesday, Indian Military said.
The operation was launched by a joint team of Army and J&K Police’s SOG (Special Operation Group) on Monday evening.
Addressing a presser, Commander of 6 Sector of army’s Rastriya Rifles, Surankote said that the group was active in Surankote area for a long time.

This operation was part of the operation Trinetra which is ngoing from the past three months, the military Commander said during the presser.
“As part of the same Operation, On July 16- an input was received about movement of unidentified persons in Sindhrah – Bachianwali and Maidana area. On July 17 specific intelligence regarding presence of armed (militants) near villages Sindarah and Maidana which are part of Surankote Tehsil, District Poonch was received. Then Army and Special Operations Group of Police launched a specific cordon and search operation of the area,” he said.
“As troops reached Sindrah village, four (militants) who had taken shelter in the forest opened fire while noticing the troops. The militants used forest foliage and inclement weather and kept opening fire onto the troops in a desperate attempt to break the cordon, he said.
The intermittent fire between militants and troops continued till about 0530 hours and were neutralised, he added.
“Four AK 47 Rifles with Magazines & rounds and two 9 mm Pistols with magazines and rounds were also recovered and the weapons were made in Pakistan,” he said.
