Israeli forces have shot dead two Palestinians at Tulkarm refugee camp in the occupied West Bank with Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip and has a strong presence in the occupied West Bank, saying that the boys were members of one of the group’s branches.

The two were identified as Samer Salah Shafiee, 22, who was shot in the neck, chest, and belly, and Hamza Jamil Kharyoush, 22, shot in the chest, belly, and left leg.

“Two martyrs, shot by the occupation [Israeli forces], arrived at Thabet Thabet government hospital,” after the raid on the Nur Shams refugee camp near the city of Tulkarem, the Palestinian health ministry said in a statement.

The Hamas statement also said the slain had engaged in armed struggle against the Israeli military.

Israeli military said it conducted a raid on Saturday against suspected persons involved in a shooting attack against Israelis earlier this week.

“They tried to flee while two others were arrested. Two M-16 rifles, military vests and [ammunition] magazines were confiscated during the raid,” it said.

The Israeli army said they were involved in a “shooting attack” in Avnei Heftz on Tuesday that injured an Israeli civilian.

Notably, Avnei Heftz is a settlement in the occupied West Bank deemed illegal under international law
