Srinagar, Kashmir's Top Shia cleric, Aga Syed Mohammed Hadi Kashmiri, was placed under house arrest on Friday in Budgam district, likely in an effort to prevent protests over Palestine.

Sources said that the cleric's house arrest was enacted ahead of a planned protest in Bemina in support of Palestine.

A close associate of Agha Syed Hadi confirmed that he has been restricted from leaving his house as a preventive measure.

Last Friday, hundreds of Kashmiris held rally processions in central Kashmir, denouncing Israel and America for its actions in Gaza.

Reportedly, thousands of Palestinian civilians have been killed since Oct 7 including more than 1000 children.

Furthermore, reports said that police officials have closed the gates of Jama Masjid and informed the Auqaf that Friday prayers will not be permitted for the second consecutive week.

Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq, who had recently been allowed to offer Friday prayers and deliver sermons at Jama Masjid after four years of house detention since August 5, 2019, also continues to be under house arrest since October 15, likely due to Israel Palestine war.
