Gaza, 27 February 2025 — A baby girl died due to the extreme cold sweeping through Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of people are living in tent camps and war-damaged buildings. This brings the total number of child fatalities linked to the harsh weather to seven, according to the Palestinian Information Centre.

Dr. Munir Al-Bursh, the Ministry’s director general, confirmed that Seila Abdul Qader, under two months old, succumbed to the freezing temperatures.

He explained that the cold wave had severe effects on vulnerable children, noting that many hospitals, especially pediatric ones, are overwhelmed by cold-related cases.

“Gaza’s hospitals can no longer manage the influx of patients due to the war and the damage inflicted on medical facilities and equipment by Israeli military actions.”

Dr. Al-Bursh urgently appealed for immediate international and UN intervention to address the dire situation facing children in Gaza.

“We need urgent action to save the children of Gaza from further suffering,” he stressed.
