Srinagar, March 26 — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday raided multiple locations in Srinagar and Sopore, including the residences of separatist leaders Abdul Gani Bhat and Shabir Ahmad Shah, in connection with ongoing investigations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
A police spokesperson said the searches were linked to cases involving banned organisations, including the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (Bhat Group), Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (Masrat Alam Group), and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (Shabir Shah Group).
Raids were conducted at Bhat’s houses in Botingoo, Sopore, and Wazir Bagh, Srinagar, and at Shah’s residence. Several other locations in Srinagar were also searched in connection with FIRs filed under UAPA sections at Rajbagh, Sadar, and Shaheed Gunj police stations, police said.
The police targeted the premises of Masrat Alam Bhat of Zaindar Mohalla, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat (alias Gugga) of Batmaloo, and Ghulam Nabi Wagay of Khanyar, among others.
The raids, conducted with warrants from the special judge under the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act, 2008, aim to dismantle remnants of the secessionist network in the region, police said.
Authorities warned that anyone furthering violent or disruptive agendas would face strict legal action.
