Manasbal: The local militant killed in Bandipora’s Aragam on Monday has been identified as Umar Lone, a category ‘A’ member of the TRF (The Resistance Front) outfit who had been active since 2018, according to the Indian military.

Addressing a press conference at the headquarters of the Military’s 3 Sector Rashtriya Rifles (RR) in Central Kashmir’s Manasbal, Brigadier Vipul Tyagi said that forces had been continuously monitoring the area. “On the night of June 16, we received intelligence inputs about militant presence, prompting the launch of the operation.”

“An ambush was set up, leading to effective fire, and in the ensuing firefight, one hardcore militant was neutralized,” he said.

Brigadier Tyagi said the slain militant was a resident of the Wussankhui area in Pattan and an “A” category militant who had been active since April 2018 and was associated with LeT/TRF. TRF, or The Resistance Front, is an offshoot of LeT.

Militants are categorized as A, B, or C depending on their involvement in militancy activities. Lone was involved in numerous activities such as recruitment, killings, and the expansion of the overground worker (OGW) network, he added.
