Kokernag, March 19— A Srinagar man has confessed to kidnapping and murdering a woman from Kokernag, South Kashmir, police said.
The accused, identified as Altaf Mir, 31, of Lawaypora, Srinagar, admitted to the crime during interrogation and told police that the victim's body was hidden at his residence.
Police have recovered the body and sent it for postmortem.
“The police have sent the body for postmortem and forensic examination to gather further evidence. Legal proceedings are ongoing, and we are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation,” SSP Anantnag G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy told reporters.
The case began on March 16 when Kokernag Police Station received a complaint about the woman’s disappearance.
“During the investigation, technical evidence pointed to a possible abduction, with suspicion falling on Mir,” Police stated.
Following his confession, police charged him under sections 64 and 103 of the BNS, considering the severity of the offense.
Chakravarthy said justice will be served and anyone else involved will face strict legal action.
