Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has postponed two holidays of Guru Arjan Dev and Guru Hargobing’s birthdays.

According to an order, the holidays will now be observed on June 10 and June 22 respectively.

“Restricted holiday on account of Martyr's Day of Guru Arjun Dev ji shall now be observed on June 10 (Monday) instead June 16 (Sunday),” reads the order.

It added that a public holiday on account of Guru Hargobind Ji's Birthday shall now be observed on June 22 (Saturday) instead of July 05 Friday.

Guru Arjan Dev (1563-1606) was the fifth Sikh Guru, known for compiling the Adi Granth, the primary Sikh scripture, and constructing the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar.

Guru Hargobind (1595-1644), the sixth Sikh Guru, transformed Sikhism by introducing the concept of "Miri-Piri," symbolizing both spiritual and temporal authority. He established the Akal Takht in Amritsar and organized a small Sikh military to ensure the importance of self-defence and laying the groundwork for Sikh martial traditions.
