Srinagar: The first batch of 642 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir has departed for Saudi Arabia for the Holy Islamic Hajj pilgrimage on Thursday, 9 May.
According to reports, the pilgrims gathered at the Hajj House in Srinagar’s Bemina at 8:30 AM, and the second batch of pilgrims is scheduled to report at 11:30 AM.
Amid prayers, families bid farewell to their loved ones as they prepare to embark on the holy journey.
Hajj became obligatory for every able-bodied Muslim adult who has the financial means to do so after Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) “farewell pilgrimage” in 632 AD.
Mr. Shujhat Quershi, Executive Officer (EO) of J&K Haj Committee, said a total of 642 pilgrims are slated to take off from Srinagar International Airport.
He added that in two flights, a total of 322 pilgrims each will take off today from Srinagar International Airport.
Pertinently, a total of 7008 Hajj pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir will be embarking on a holy pilgrimage this year.
