Saudi Arabia Confirms Ramadan Moon Sighting

RIYADH, 28 February 2025 — The crescent moon marking the beginning of Ramadan was sighted in Saudi Arabia on Friday evening, confirming that the holy month will commence on Saturday, March 1, the Supreme Court announced.

Observatories in Sudair and Tumair recorded the sighting, following the court’s earlier call for Muslims across the Kingdom to look for the Ramadan moon.

“Anyone who sights the crescent, either with the naked eye or binoculars, should report to the nearest court to verify their testimony,” the court mentioned.

Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting committee regularly monitors the lunar cycle in the days leading up to Ramadhan but encourages public participation in the observation.

During Ramadhan, Muslims worldwide fast from sunrise to sunset, refraining from food, drinking and smoking as part of a spiritual practice, fostering patience, charity, and community welfare.

The month also commemorates the revelation of the Holy Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which was sent down in this month, and is considered a time for increased prayer, self-reflection, and generosity.
