Srinagar, March 9 — A ‘fashion show’ held in Gulmarg during the holy month of Ramadan has sparked online outrage in Kashmir, with religious leaders and activists questioning how the administration allowed such an event.
Images and videos from the show, which featured models in semi-nude clothing, were shared on social media, drawing criticism from various quarters.
Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq condemned the event, questioning the authorities responsible for permitting it.
"Who allowed this nude fashion show in Gulmarg during Ramadan? Semi-nude men and women walking on snow—will the Tourism Department or the CEO of the Gulmarg Development Authority explain? Why are you determined to destroy our moral, ethical, cultural, and religious values?" he wrote.
Responding to Mirwaiz, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said, "The shock and anger are totally understandable. The images I have seen show a complete disregard for local sensitivities, especially during this holy month. My office has been in touch with the local authorities, and I’ve asked for a report within the next 24 hours. Further action, as appropriate, will follow."
Activist Raja Muzaffar echoed similar concerns, demanding immediate accountability from the administration.
“Who allowed this Nude Fashion Show at Gulmarg in Holy Ramzan ? Semi Nude Men & Women Walking on Snow. Will Tourism Deptt, CEO GDA throw some light ? Why are you hell bound to demolish our Moral, Ethical , Cultural & Religious values?,” he posted on X.
This is the second such controversy in recent weeks. Earlier, videos of tourists consuming alcohol in public spaces in Kashmir also triggered a strong reaction online.
