Srinagar: Two army men and a newly recruited militant were killed in Zainapora gunfight, south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
“Based on a specific input provided by Police, the Cardon and Search Operation was launched at Chermarg area of Shopian. One house owner in the area Gowhar Ahmd Bhat ‘intentionally’ misled the search party and denied sheltering the (militant) in his house,” IGP said.
“While he was being questioned, a (militant) sheltered in the house opened fire on the search party, causing grievous injuries to two of the soldiers,” he said.
In the retaliatory action, the LeT (Lashkar-e-Toiba) militant was identified as Abdul Qayoom Dar of Laroo Kakpora Pulwama was killed and one AK rifle and a pistol was recovered from his possesion,” he said.
Later, both the injured army men, identified them as Sepoy Santosh Yadav and Sepoy Chavan Romit Tanaji from 1 RR succumbed to their injuries.
The police officer said that a case has been registered and house owner has been arrested under anti-militancy laws.
The killed militant was working as an OGW before joing militancy. In April 2020 an encounter took place in his house when he was arrested and booked under PSA, Later. he was released in August 2021 but continued to work as an OGW.
Mr Kumar also said SSP Pulwama had officially informed counter insurgency intelligence on his joining inputs.
“Consequently he has been categorised as C category militant,” he added.
