WASHINGTON, 3 January, 2025: US President-elect Donald Trump intends to impose sweeping sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague shortly after taking office, Israel Hayom reported.ย
ย
Citing informed sources, the report said that executive orders targeting the court and its personnel could be revealed as early as January 21, a day after Trumpโs inauguration.
ย
โThe proposed measures would classify the ICC as a threat to US interests, akin to designations applied to global terrorist organizations by the State Department,โ according to the newspaper.ย
ย
"Such classification will lead to significant restrictions on individuals associated with the court, including judges, prosecutors, and other officials," it added.
ย
The sanctions reportedly strive to pressure the ICC into retracting its arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over Gaza war.ย
ย
โThe incoming administration views the warrants as a critical risk to US national security, arguing that they undermine the ability of the US and its allies to defend against global threats,โ said the report.ย
