Srinagar: Doctors in Kashmir have cautioned against triple threat of viral infections including RSV, influenza, Covid with hospitals reporting an uptick in cases since 1 October.
Dr Nisar Ul Hassan, an influenza expert and President of the Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) said that Covid-19 has become a seasonal virus like cold. However, RSV, influenza, is also being diagnosed across valley.
“It’s a triple threat of viral infections,” he said.
When comparing this year to the previous year, Dr. Nisar pointed out that RSV cases are surfacing earlier than the norm, affecting younger population.
He said that some patients have developed severe pneumonia, which requires intensive care and ventilator support and urged public to take precautions, and maintain personal hygiene.
However, renowned respiratory specialist, Dr. Bikramjeet Singh told The Himalayan Post that while there has indeed been a noticeable uptick in infections, “no fatalities have been reported at this time.”
"There is no need to panic; it’s the fear of COVID-19 that has intensified concerns about viral infections. Not all viral infections are fatal,” he reassured.
