ANANTNAG, October 11: Anantnag Police have arrested 10 people and registered 10 FIRs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act following a series of anti-drug operations across the district, recovering suspected cannabis, charas, charas powder and a heroin-like substance, officials said on Sunday.
The recoveries were made during naka checking, routine patrolling and surveillance at multiple locations under different police station jurisdictions, police said, adding that investigations had been initiated in all the cases.
In one of the major recoveries, police allegedly seized approximately 2.393 kilograms of cannabis from a man intercepted during naka checking at Lessu in the Larnoo area.
Police said the accused, identified as Mohd. Iqbal Dangroo, son of Mohd. Rajab Dangroo and a resident of Lessu Branard, was apprehended after the substance was allegedly found in a bag in his possession. FIR No. 59/2026 has been registered against him under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Larnoo.
Multiple recoveries across police jurisdictions
In Bijbehara, police apprehended two men in separate incidents in the Arwani area and allegedly recovered charas from their possession.
The accused were identified as Mukhtar Ali, son of Manzoor Ahmad, and Dolal Ali, son of Bahadur Din. Both are residents of West Bengal. Police registered FIR Nos. 292/2026 and 293/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act in connection with the recoveries.
In another operation, a police team conducting surprise naka checking near Hatigam Crossing in Srigufwara apprehended Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh. Hassan Bhat, a resident of Sirhama.
Police said approximately 55 grams of charas and 86 grams of charas powder were allegedly recovered from his possession. FIR No. 96/2026 has been registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act.
At Krad Bridge, Uttersoo, police intercepted Mohd. Arif Magray, son of Mohd. Akbar and a resident of Deethu Shangus, during patrolling. Approximately 15 grams of a charas-like substance were allegedly recovered from him, following which FIR No. 101/2026 was registered under Sections 8/20 of the Act.
Similarly, during naka checking near the footbridge at Bumzoo in Mattan, police apprehended Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie, son of Mohammad Ramzan Ganaie and a resident of Gund Bagh, Seer Hamdan.
A personal search allegedly led to the recovery of approximately 90.2 grams of charas. Police said an FIR had been registered under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
In Dialgam, police intercepted Fayaz Ahmad Magray, son of Gh. Rasool Magray and a resident of Donipawa, Anantnag, at Bondialgam Crossing while he was travelling towards Bondialgam.
Approximately eight grams of a charas-like substance were allegedly recovered from him. Police registered FIR No. 354/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act.
Heroin-like substance recovered from vehicle in Achabal
In a separate operation at Shehlipora Crossing, Achabal, police intercepted an Innova bearing registration number JK02AN-3114, allegedly driven by Irshad Ahmad Ganaie, son of Gh. Rasool Ganaie and a resident of Shehlipora.
During checking, police allegedly recovered approximately 8.4 grams of a heroin-like substance from the vehicle. The accused was arrested and the vehicle seized.
FIR No. 107/2026 has been registered under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act in connection with the case.
In another operation in the Akingam area of Achabal, police apprehended Feroze Ahmad Sofi, son of Gh. Hassan Sofi and a resident of Akingam.
Approximately 18.4 grams of a charas-like substance were allegedly recovered from his possession. FIR No. 108/2026 was registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act.
Charas recovered near Cheerpora Bridge
Meanwhile, a police team from Police Station Uttersoo apprehended Aijaz Ahmad Lone, son of Mohd. Hussan Lone and a resident of Cheerpora, near Cheerpora Bridge during routine patrolling.
Police said approximately 12 grams of charas were allegedly recovered from a polythene bag in his possession.
FIR No. 102/2026 has been registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
Police said investigations into all the cases were in progress and further legal proceedings would follow.
