Srinagar, Oct 6: Kashmir is likely to see a sharp change in weather over the next few days, with light snowfall expected over higher reaches and rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds forecast from October 6 to 10, the Meteorological Centre said.
The forecast comes a day after several parts of the Valley experienced unusually high temperatures for early October, with maximum temperatures remaining well above normal across Jammu and Kashmir.
The MeT department has advised people to take precautions for the expected weather, particularly farmers and growers involved in apple harvesting and paddy storage.
“From October 11 to 15 weather will remain partly cloudy,” the MeT said.
The department has forecast scattered rainfall and thunderstorms in the coming days, while temperatures are expected to remain above normal despite the anticipated change in weather.
On Monday, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 30.8°C, which was 5.3°C above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 12.3°C, 3.3°C above normal.
Qazigund recorded a maximum of 31°C, or 6.9°C above normal, with the minimum temperature at 10.2°C.
Pahalgam recorded a maximum of 26.6°C and a minimum of 7.4°C, while Gulmarg recorded 23°C and 9°C, respectively.
In Jammu, the maximum temperature stood at 33°C, 0.6°C above normal, while the minimum was 23°C, 2.1°C above normal.
No rainfall was recorded at the weather stations listed by the department during the reporting period.
The expected spell of rain and snowfall is likely to bring a marked shift from the unusually warm conditions recorded across the Valley in the opening days of October.
