Commercial airlines around the world stand cancelled as the mounting wave of COVID-19 infection driven by the new variant Omicron is spreading with surge around world – disrupting the holiday travel on the eve of Christmas.
Thousands of flights have been cancelled; the overall, global airlines have cancelled more 4,700 flights scheduled to take off on Friday and Saturday.
According to Flightaware.com, at least 2,000 flights were cancelled worldwide on Christmas Day.
More than 5.3 million people have died with coronavirus worldwide, according to America’s Johns Hopkins University. There have been 279 million confirmed cases.
Omicron is the new variant of coronavirus, although experts say it’s less vulnerable than Delta variant but the surge across globe have caused uncertainty.
