Bandipora: An eight-year- old girl drowned to death in Kishanganga or Neelum river in Neeru village of north Kashmir’s Gurez valley on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
An official identified the deceased as Iqra Bano, daughter of Mohammad Jamal Mir and a resident of Neeru.
As per the official, she slipped into Kishanganga river near his village.
“A rescue operation was launched, however, by the time the girl was rescued she had already died.”
After completing medico-legal formalities the body was handed over to the family for last rites," he added.
