Srinagar: J&K’s Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh sanctioned over rupees 1.52 crore to the families of the police personnel who were either killed by militants or have passed away of illness while in service, as Special Welfare Relief for Next-of-Kins of such police personnel.
An order of PHQ Special Welfare Relief of rupees 22 lakh has been sanctioned in favour of dependents/legal heirs of Selection Grade Constable Safiullah Qadri who was killed in a militant attack.
“Similarly the special welfare relief of rupees 22 lakh each has been sanctioned in favour of dependents/legal heirs of deceased ASI Mohammad Hussain, HC Javid Ahmad SgCts Amina Akhtar, Darbesh Kumar and Ghulam Qadir as Special welfare relief of rupees 20 lakh has been sanctioned in favour of dependents/legal heirs of SgCt Mohammad Roshan and Follower Pawan Kumar.”

Rupees one lakh each has already been paid to NoKs of these deceased police personnel for performing last rites through their concerned units. The Special Welfare Relief is sanctioned out of Contributory Police Welfare Funds.
“Police Headquarters is running many schemes for the welfare of its personnel and their families. There are also schemes for the wards of Police personnel and SPOs. Besides, there are schemes for the NoKs of those slain in action, their wards and also for the retired police personnel and their spouses.”
Earlier, on 5 June, the Director General of Police sanctioned Special Welfare Relief of rupees 2.16 crore and ex-gratia relief of rupees 38 lakh for legal heirs of deceased police personnel/SPOs as financial assistance to the families.
Subsequent militant attacks against J&K police have killed more than seven personnel in the Valley since beginning of the year. While 21 were killed last year.
