Srinagar: Police on Sunday arrested four persons who thrashed a journalist in Srinagar’s Bemina area on Saturday evening after the victim lodged a written complaint in the concerned police station.
The journalist identified as Shabraiz Bashir, son of late Bashir Ahmad and a resident of Hamdanya colony Bemina who works with News Now (Jammu-based News Organisation) as a correspondent lodged a written complaint against the four unknown persons who allegedly thrashed him Bemina Chowk and fled away immediately.
The physical assault resulted in injuries to the victim and a case was registered against the four persons followed by an investigation, Police said in a statement.
During the investigation, CCTV footage of the area was analysed which led to the arrest of the four accused persons, police said.
The assailants have been identified as Iqbal Saleem, son of Mohd Saleem- resident of Hajjiabad Bemina, Mohd Qasim, son of Manzoor Ahmed Dar- resident of Ferdous colony Bemina, Imran Manzoor, son of Manzoor Ahmed Badyri – resident of Mansoor colony Bemina and Jahanger Ahmed Khan, son of Farooq Ahmad Khan – resident of Ferdousabad Batmaloo, the statement reads.
Prima facie (based on the first impression; accepted as correct until proved otherwise) – the case seems to be based on road rage, the statement said.
The investigation of the case is going on and further evidence is being collected, it said.
“Srinagar Police assures citizens that all such cases will be investigated with full professionalism, the statement concludes.
