Four Killed As Two Encounters Underway In North, South Kashmir

Srinagar: Four militants were killed in two separate encounters (military operation) in North and South Kashmir on Tuesday.

Two were killed in an overnight encounter at Tujjan area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district and two unidentified militants were nutralised at Tulibal area North Kashmir’s Sopore, police said on Tuesday morning.

The nocturnal operation in Tujjan started at around 1:44 am and Sopore operation started at around 3:49 AM on the interviewing night of Monday-Tuesday.

Police said the slain duo killed in south Kashmir was affiliated with Jaish outfit and identified one of them with his name only. However, other neutralized militants’ identities are being ascertained.  

"JeM militant Majid Nazir, Killer of SI Farooq Mir has been neutralised in Pulwama encounter,” Police quoted IGP saying.

The Sopore encounter is underway and searches are being done in Pulwama’s Tujjan.

Kashmir has been reporting intensification of military operation against militants. In the first 20 days of June, the region witnessed 14 encounters in which 25 militant were killed.

As per official figures: On June 03, Hizb commander identified as Nisar Khanday was killed in Rishipora Kapran area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

On 06 June, a non-local LeT militant was killed in Zaloora Sopore area of Baramulla district.

On 07 June, two LeT militants namely Tufail, a Pakistani citizen and Ishtiyak Lone from Tral Pulwama were killed in Kandi Kupwara. On Same day, a Hizb militant namely Nadeem Ahmad Rather alias Dr. Raja Nadeem, son of Abdul Rehman Rather resident of Ashmuji Kulgam who was missing since  March 27, 2020 was killed in Badimarg Shopian.

The figures suggest that on 11 June, Hizb militant identified as Rasik Ahmad Ganaie, a resident of Shouch village, near Mohanpora of the Kulgam district was killed in Kandipora Kulgam.

“On 12 June, Three local LeT militants identified as Junaid Shergojri, Fazil nazir Bhat and Irfan Ahmad Malik were killed in Drabgam Pulwama.

On 12 June, LeT militant Aadil Parry from Ganderbal was killed in Palpora Srinagar.

“On 14 June, two LeT militants identified as Abdullah Goujri, a resident of Faisalabad, Pakistan and Adil Hussain Mir alias Sufian alias Musab, resident of Anantnag were killed in Bemina area of Srinagar.”

On 15 June, two LeT militants identified as identified as Jan Mohd Lone resident of Braripora Shopian and Tufail Nazir Ganie resident of Ramnagri Shopian were killed in Kanjiullar Shopian.

“On 16 June, two Local Hizb militants were killed in an encounter in Mishipora area of Kulgam. On same day, two Hizb militants Junaid Ahmad Bhat and Basit Ashraf Wani were killed in Hangulgund area of Kupgam.

On 19 June, two local militants including one each from Jaish and LeT identified as Zakir Padder of Kulgam and Harris Sharief of Kulgam were killed in D.H Pora Kulgam.

On 20 June, four militants including a three non-locals and one local arrested militant Showkat Ahmad from Sedow Shopian was killed in an encounter in Lolab area of Kupwara. On same day, a militant affiliated with LeT was killed in Chatpora Pulwama.

As per police, 114 militants including 32 foreigners were killed in Kashmir valley this year.
