At least 14 people were killed and 17 others injured after n earthquake jolted Indonesia’s main island of Java on Monday.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude 5.6 quake was centered in the Cianjur region in West Java province at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
It killed at least 14 people and injured 17 others, National Disaster Mitigation Agency chief Suharyanto said.
Dozens of buildings were damaged, including an Islamic boarding school, a hospital, and other public facilities, the agency said.
The country is prone to earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis because of its geographical location as it stands on the “Ring of Fire,” a string of volcanoes and sites of seismic activity, or earthquakes, around the edges of the Pacific Ocean.
