Srinagar: As the first batch of 145 pilgrims returned to Kashmir on Saturday from the annual Holy Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, P K Pole, DIG Central Kashmir Range Sujit Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Budgam and J&K Executive Officer Haj Committee Abdul Salaam Mir received the Pilgrims at the Srinagar International Airport that landed at 7.50 am.
“As many as 145 Hajis returned on the first day of Haj arrivals at the Srinagar airport who were received by the Div com and others,” Executive Officer J&K Hajj Committee Dr. Abdul Salam Mir said.
“Special arrangements for hassle-free immigration clearance were put in place at the airport,” he said.
To address the grievances and feedback from J&K pilgrims, chairman Haj Corporation of India AP Abdul Kuttay and Member HCoI Er Aijaz Hussian are camping in Saudi Arabia since July 4, as per officials.
Last flight of Haj pilgrims from J&K will arrive on August 1. At least 80,000 pilgrims from India including 7000 from J&K will perform Hajj 2022 this year.
In Islam, Hajj is the holy pilgrimage to the city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, which every adult Muslim must make at least once in his or her lifetime. It is the fifth of the fundamental Muslim practices and one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
