Srinagar, October 1: Indian Youth Congress (IYC) Youth President Yasir Mandoo has called for an immediate and impartial inquiry into a reported incident at Government Medical College (GMC) Doda, where students were allegedly asked to remove their abayas.

Mandoo condemned the reported incident and said educational institutions should ensure that students are treated with dignity and their constitutional rights are respected.

“Every woman has the right to dress with dignity and choice. Our Constitution guarantees equality, dignity and freedom of conscience, and these constitutional values must be respected everywhere, including our educational institutions. The matter should be investigated fairly and anyone found responsible must be held accountable,” Mandoo said.

He urged the authorities to establish the facts surrounding the incident and take appropriate action based on the findings of the inquiry.

Mandoo also stressed that educational institutions should remain spaces where students can pursue their studies while being treated with dignity and respect.

The reported incident has prompted the Congress leader to seek a formal examination of the circumstances and accountability if any wrongdoing is established.
