New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a fresh legal action against the news portal, NewsClick, accusing it of violating foreign funding regulations under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) after raiding the residence and office of Prabir Purkayastha, the founder of NewsClick on Wednesday.
NewsClick has been under intense scrutiny from various government agencies.
In response to the CBI action, the news organization issued a statement on X (formerly known as Twitter), saying, "This is the fifth agency that is investigating us, and we are cooperating with the authorities."
This recent CBI raid adds to the list of multiple agencies already probing NewsClick for its alleged Chinese links and funding.
Last week, the Delhi Police arrested Prabir Purkayastha and Amit Chakravorty, the Human Resources head of NewsClick, on charges under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been investigating the news website since 2021 and has already attached assets belonging to Prabir Purkayastha. Â
