NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 1: Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices were increased by Rs 16 per litre from Thursday, while the price of commercial LPG was raised by Rs 62.50 per 19-kg cylinder, according to state-owned oil companies.

ATF, used by domestic airlines, has been revised to Rs 137 per litre from Rs 121, marking a sharp increase in the fuel that accounts for up to 40 per cent of an airline’s operating costs.

The latest hike follows an increase of Rs 6.28 per litre, or 5.46 per cent, in September, after ATF prices were raised by Rs 5 per litre in August.

Commercial LPG prices, meanwhile, were increased by Rs 62.59 per 19-kg cylinder.

The latest revisions are based on movements in international benchmark prices and the rupee-dollar exchange rate. ATF and LPG prices are revised on the first day of every month and may vary from state to state because of local taxes, including VAT.

Commercial LPG prices had increased sharply earlier this year, rising by Rs 1,373 per cylinder between February and June, from Rs 1,740.50 to Rs 3,113.50. Prices subsequently fell by Rs 183.50 in July and Rs 192 in August before rising by Rs 9.50 in September.

The June surge had come amid disruptions to global energy supplies and elevated international prices.

For households, however, the price of domestic LPG has been kept unchanged at Rs 942 for a 14.2-kg cylinder.

Domestic cooking gas prices had been raised by Rs 89 per cylinder between March and June after the West Asia crisis disrupted supplies and pushed up international energy prices.

Petrol and diesel prices have also been left unchanged. Both fuels were last increased by around Rs 7.50 per litre in May.
