NEW DELHI, October 11: Three senior Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders — Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka — were released from Delhi Police detention on Sunday after an Executive Magistrate imposed a condition barring them from engaging in activities that breach peace and tranquillity for one year.

CJP legal head Ratna Singh shared the development on Sunday while working to secure the release of her colleagues.

The three leaders were produced before an Executive Magistrate at Delhi Cantt Police Station at around 9 am, where conditions were imposed for their release, according to the information shared by the party.

The leaders are expected to address the media later in the day to explain the circumstances surrounding their detention and the conditions imposed by the magistrate.

Their release comes amid a dispute between the party and Delhi Police over permission for the CJP’s proposed October 10 demonstration at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, whom the party has accused of electoral irregularities.

Police cite previous protest undertakings

Delhi Police had denied permission for the proposed demonstration, citing alleged violations of conditions imposed during an earlier protest held by the party at Jantar Mantar on July 20.

Police also cited the party’s alleged failure to submit its application within the mandatory 10-day notice period for the proposed agitation.

Several CJP members and supporters were detained ahead of the October 10 protest, which the party had planned to highlight its allegations against the Election Commission.

The release of the three leaders on Sunday marked a fresh development in the standoff over the proposed demonstration.

The party leaders are expected to provide further details about their detention and the conditions attached to their release later in the day.
