Srinagar: A man was injured in a bear attack at Lal Mandi, one of the densely populated area of Srinagar, on Sunday and concerned authorities urged residents to stay indoors after a Himalayan black bear and his cub was spotted in the Rajbagh area of Srinagar.
The injured has been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Bhat (40) son of Late Mohd Shafi Bhat – resident of Habba Kadal, working as Chokidar in a private school.
"He has injuries in right side of face and both arms, has been shifted to SMHS where his condition is stated to be stable," an officer added.
It’s pertinent to mention that police has already issued advisory to the people in Rajbagh to not venture out of their homes until the bear and cub are captured.
Reportedly, panic gripped Rajbagh area of Srinagar after a bear and it’s cub were seen roaming in the area late last night, even as the wildlife department and police have asked the residents to stay indoors till the bear is caught.
Concerned officials said that a team has launched a search operation and probable areas are being searched so that the bear is caught.
He also advised people to stay indoors, especially don’t leave the children alone and lock the main gates of their houses, so as to prevent any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, Srinagar police also issued an advisory asking people to stay indoors after a CCTV footage surfaced, wherein a bear and its cub can be seen roaming in Rajbagh area.
“One Wild Bear & a small Cub are roaming in Rajbagh locality of Srinagar. Wildlife officials & Police are on the job. Citizens of this & nearby areas are advised to remain indoors till it is caught. If anyone notices/sees the bear, please inform SHO Rajbagh on 7006572050,” police said.
