Srinagar, Apr 29 Scores of residents, mostly women, on Wednesday blocked the Batmaloo–Tengpora road in Mir Abad, Batmaloo, protesting an acute drinking water shortage that they said has persisted for several days.

Eyewitnesses said the protest began in the morning, with women assembling on the road and raising slogans against authorities for failing to ensure regular supply. The blockade disrupted traffic on the busy stretch for some time.

“We have been without water for many days. Our daily routine has been badly affected and despite repeated requests, no one is listening to us,” a protesting woman said.

Residents said the shortage has caused widespread hardship, particularly for households dependent on daily supply. “We are forced to fetch water from far-off places,” another resident said, adding that women, children and the elderly are the worst affected.

Protesters demanded immediate restoration of supply and warned of intensifying agitation if the issue remains unresolved.

Traffic movement on the Batmaloo–Tengpora road remained affected during the protest before normalcy was restored.
