Jammu, Apr 27 — The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Monday quashed the Public Safety Act (PSA) detention of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Mehraj Malik, setting aside the 2025 order under which he had been held since September last year.
Justice Mohd Yousuf Wani announced in open court that the detention stands quashed.
According to the dossier, authorities had accused Malik of “disturbing public order,” alleging he used abusive language against doctors and senior officials, incited youth to create law-and-order issues, and obstructed relief and development work. It also cited multiple FIRs and claimed he carried out “verbal and derogatory attacks” through social media.
Malik’s detention followed his allegations against Doda Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, whom he accused of misconduct and abuse of power. The officer had denied the charges.
Malik, who heads the AAP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit, is lodged in Kathua jail
