Srinagar, June 3 — Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Wednesday conducted searches at eight locations across the Kashmir Valley in connection with an investigation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Arms Act and the Foreigners Act, officials said.
The searches were carried out in Srinagar, Anantnag, Kulgam, Bandipora, Sopore, Kupwara and other locations as part of an ongoing probe into alleged militant activities and support networks operating in the Valley.
An official said the action relates to FIR No. 2 of 2015 registered at Police Station CIK Srinagar under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, Sections 15, 16, 17 and 19 of the UAPA, and Section 7/25 of the Arms Act.
According to investigators, the case concerns suspected networks allegedly operating at the behest of handlers based across the border and using Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and sleeper cells to facilitate infiltration, radicalisation, recruitment and other activities aimed at disturbing peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir.
“During the course of the investigation, CIK received inputs suggesting that suspects were using encrypted social media and communication platforms to remain in contact with militancy handlers, circulate radical propaganda and coordinate unlawful activities,” the official said.
Teams of CIK, assisted by local police and other security agencies, carried out the searches to collect evidence, seize digital devices and identify individuals allegedly linked to the network.
Officials said the operation is part of continuing efforts to dismantle alleged support structures and disrupt communication channels used by militant organisations.
The searches were still underway when reports last came in. Authorities said details regarding any recoveries, seizures or arrests would be shared after completion of the operation.
Officials added that the investigation remains in progress and further information is expected as the probe advances.
