Srinagar, Jan 11: The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced the suspension of traffic on the Kargil-Srinagar highway, including the Zojila Pass, from January 11 to January 13 citing icy road conditions and inclement weather.
Besides, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Z-Morh Tunnel on January 13, a vital infrastructure project on the Srinagar-Leh Highway, providing all-weather connectivity between Srinagar, Sonamarg, and Kargil.
according to reports, the inauguration will take place around 11:45 am, followed by an address to the audience.
Built at a cost of approximately Rs 2,680 crore, the Z-Morh Tunnel is part of the broader Zojila tunnel project. The Z-Morh Tunnel, which sits at an altitude of over 8,650 feet, features advanced safety systems such as an escape tunnel, ventilation, and culverts to withstand harsh weather conditions.
The project also includes the construction of the main tunnel, an egress tunnel, and approach roads, aiming to enhance all-weather connectivity and provide a safer, uninterrupted route to Leh, bypassing avalanche-prone areas.
The inauguration will be attended by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
During his visit, PM Modi will also meet the dedicated construction workers who endured extreme conditions to bring the project to completion.
