Srinagar: A court remanded the former president of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Mian Abdul Qayoom, in police custody until July 1 in connection with the murder case of advocate Babar Qadri, who was shot dead by suspected militants at his residence in September 2020.
Last year, the High Court had transferred the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Jammu following a petition moved by the State Investigation Agency (SIA).
Qayoom was arrested by the SIA on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in the murder conspiracy of Babar Qadri, as the case has been under investigation by the SIA since July 2023.
Before Qadri’s death, he had said in a Facebook Live session that he was receiving intimidating messages after he had written against the then Bar Association president, Qayoom, over the body’s elections. He feared for his life and had urged the police to register an FIR against a social media user who had accused Qadri of being “protected by agencies.”
