Handwuar, March 17— A Pakistani militant was killed in a gunfight with forces in Handwara’s Krumbhoora Rajwar area on Monday, police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mushtaq Choudhary told reporters that the operation was launched following a tip-off.
“Forces cordoned off the area this morning. As soon as contact was established, an exchange of fire ensued, leading to his killing,” he said.
The militant was identified as Saifullah, a Pakistani national, based on recovered evidence, Choudhary stated.
“He had been active in the area for a long time. An AK rifle, four magazines, grenades, and other materials were recovered from the site.”
Choudhary added that the area was being sanitized to rule out any further threats.
He also dismissed reports of a policeman being injured in the encounter, calling them baseless.
