Srinagar, 11 January 2025 — The Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) has urged the government of India to reconsider the mandatory transshipment at Katra for the Srinagar-Delhi train, citing delays and inconvenience for passengers.

KTA President Aijaz Shahdhar said that eliminating train swapping at Katra would streamline travel between Srinagar and Delhi, enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir.

"This change is crucial for a smoother journey and improved regional connectivity. It will not only bring convenience to passengers but also support local businesses and tourism," Shahdhar said in a statement.

The KTA stressed that direct rail connectivity would boost the region's economic prospects, encouraging visitors to experience the valley's scenic beauty and culture.

Earlier, the Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union expressed disappointment over the absence of a direct Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express and a dedicated goods train.

They stressed the urgent need for swift transportation of perishable goods to support the region's horticulture sector, a cornerstone of its economy.

Both unions appealed for government intervention to address these issues.
