Israeli forces carried out a raid in the Sawaneh neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem, seizing the residence of prominent religious figure Sheikh Ekrima Sabri, who serves as the imam of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the head of the Higher Islamic Authority (Awqaf).
Israeli authorities justified the seizure by citing the property as an "unauthorized construction," as reported by Anadolu.
As per reports, the raid involved a large number of deployment of Israeli police and intelligence personnel who targeted the building, including the apartment where the 85-year-old Sheikh Sabri resides.
The forces attached a demolition order to the building's door during the raid, sparking concerns among the Palestinian community.
Approximately 100 Palestinian families are reported to be residing in the 18 residential apartments within the affected building.
This is not the first time Sheikh Sabri has faced adversity from Israeli authorities. He has previously been subjected to arrest and has been prohibited from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque and traveling. The accusations against him include "incitement against Israel."
