Srinagar, 30 November 2024 – Three residential houses were damaged by fire, leaving at least a dozen families homeless in the Danawari area of Chattabal, Srinagar, on Saturday.
The fire broke out around 6:03 am and quickly spread, engulfing the upper floors and attics of the buildings before consuming parts of two adjacent houses, according to reports.
Officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported, and all affected residents managed to escape unharmed. However, the fire caused extensive property damage.
Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene, recalling how they woke to cries for help and saw the flames spreading rapidly. “We were all asleep when loud cries woke us. The attic of the first house was already in flames. Within moments, the fire spread to neighbouring homes, creating panic in the area,” one local recounted.
Another resident added, “These families have lost everything and are now homeless.”
The affected families are currently seeking refuge with relatives and neighbours.
