Boniyar, Dec 07: A rare Markhor, the national animal of Gilgit-Baltistan (Pakistan-controlled Kashmir), was sighted Saturday morning in Noorkha village, Boniyar, in north Kashmir, officials said.
Locals spotted the animal near a waterfall and alerted authorities. Police and wildlife officials promptly arrived at the scene to assess the situation.
“This is the first time such a rare species has been seen in the area. It likely crossed over from the Line of Control (LOC),” an official noted.
Efforts are underway to secure the animal safely, with locals advised to steer clear of the operation site to prevent any disturbance.
